Many diabetics choose to wear some form of identification so they can be identified in case of an emergency. This is a wise choice because if they are in an accident, for example, the paramedics will see the diabetic tag and know that extra care may be needed. There are all different kinds of identification people can wear, from bracelets to necklaces.

  1. Bracelets

    • The bracelets diabetics can wear vary greatly. The most basic one is a silver chain with a silver faceplate that has the diabetic symbol on it. These bracelets tend to be fairly inexpensive. For those who want something more trendy, there are charm bracelets, bracelets with brown leather straps and silver cuff bracelets, all bearing the diabetic symbol.

    Rubber Bracelets

    • Many people wear colored bands made of rubber around their wrists to show support for an organization or cause. A company called CoolMedID, which specializes in making ID jewelry for people, developed bands that contain the diabetic symbol on either side of the word "DIABETIC." These bracelets are available in all different colors, even multicolored.

    Dog Tags

    • Some people choose to wear dog tags instead of bracelets. These tags come in different shapes and sizes and they provide room for engravings to be made on them. The engraving can contain the name of the wearer as well as any allergies he may have. There are various dog tag styles that can make them stylish as well.

    Celebrity Necklaces

    • Pop star Nick Jonas was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as a child and he developed his own dog tags people can wear. They are limited edition and made by Bayer Diabetes Care. The design on them is different from other dog tags and it simply says "DIABETES." People who are not diabetic but want to buy one of these and show their support can get a necklace without the word "DIABETES" on it and 50 percent of all the proceeds go to charity.

    Key chains

    • For people who do not want any kind of jewelry, key chains are available which would identify the owner as diabetic. They are often very simple, just containing the diabetic symbol and the word "DIABETIC." Some key chains open up like a locket allowing for a small piece of paper containing medical and family information to be put inside.
