Signs & Symptoms of Diabetes Besides Thirst & Urination
Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects blood sugar levels in the body. There are two types of the disease: Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 diabetes, which is also called juvenile diabetes, develops when the pancreas does not properly produce the hormone insulin. Type 2 diabetes, which is sometimes referred to as adult-onset diabetes, develops because the body does not make enough insulin or use it properly. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of the condition, and it often develops in people who have an unhealthy lifestyle. Increased thirst and urination are two common signs of both types of diabetes, but there are also several other signs and symptoms.-
Hunger
-
In addition to increased thirst and urination, people who have diabetes may notice they are also much more hungry than usual. This is a common sign of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
Fatigue
-
Unexplained fatigue is another sign of both types of diabetes. You may feel like it's difficult to get out of bed or may notice you become tired more easily than you once did. Irritability can also be a sign of diabetes.
Vision
-
Changes to your vision, such as experiencing periods of blurred vision or double vision, can be a symptom of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Blurred vision is a sign of a high blood-sugar level.
Weight Loss
-
Unusual weight loss that cannot be attributed to changes in diet or exercise can be a sign of Type 1 diabetes. It is not a symptom of Type 2 diabetes, which is often diagnosed in people who are overweight or obese.
Tingling
-
People with Type 1 diabetes may experience a tingling sensation, most often in the feet. Some people also describe feeling a loss of sensation in the feet.
Infections and Wounds
-
People who have developed Type 2 diabetes are prone to frequent and recurrent infections. In addition, it can take longer to recover from infections, cuts and scrapes; other wounds can take longer than normal to heal.
