Directions for the FreeStyle Freedom Lite

For people who suffer from diabetes and hypoglycemia, being able to test your blood sugar at any time is invaluable. The FreeStyle Freedom Lite blood glucose monitor provides fast and accurate blood-sugar measurements in a small, portable plastic body. While the Freedom Lite will help you assess your blood sugar level, it is still up to you to effectively manage your blood sugar. Always follow your doctor's recommendations for medicine and diet to keep your diabetes or hypoglycemia under control, and contact a health professional immediately if your blood sugar levels are extreme (below 60 mg/dL or above 240 mg/dL).

Instructions

    • 1

Insert a test strip into the head of the FreeStyle Freedom Lite until it will not enter any farther. The unit will turn on automatically.

    • 2

Draw blood from your forearm, thigh or fingertip using your lancing device. Drawing blood from a finger is recommended for individuals with hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. Apply a small amount of pressure around the area of the lancing to draw a drop of blood about the size of a pin head.

    • 3

Bring the FreeStyle Freedom Lite to the testing area. Dip the end of the test strip into the bead of blood, using only one side of the strip to collect the sample (only one of the semicircles at the end of the strip). Hold the test strip to the blood sample until the unit emits a beep, indicating it is reading your blood sugar. Your test result will appear on the monitor's screen within a few seconds.

    • 4

Discard the test strip after you have finished your reading.
