How to Load Lancets Into a Device

Monitoring your blood glucose levels is fundamental in the proper care and management of diabetes. Regular testing will help you determine how certain factors such as foods, exercise, stress and medications affect your blood glucose levels. Blood sugar monitors allow you to determine your blood glucose levels conveniently. They are simple to use and require a sample of blood to test. Lancets are loaded into a blood sampler and then used to prick your skin to draw a blood sample to test.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hands thoroughly using soap with warm water and then pat them dry.

    • 2

Unscrew the cap from the blood sampler in a counterclockwise direction to expose the lancet holder.

    • 3

Place a lancet into the lancet holder and push it in firmly until it fits snugly into the compartment.

    • 4

Twist the protective cap from the lancet in a clockwise direction to remove it. Screw the cap back onto the blood sampler.

    • 5

Select the penetration depth from the numbers located on the twisting dial outside of the blood sampler. The higher the number, the deeper the lancet will penetrate you. Some sampler devices have raised bumps instead of numbers, the bigger the raised bump the deeper the penetration. Try a few penetration depths to figure out which depth works best for you.

Locate the ejection/cocking control. Depending on your blood sampler this may be located on the top of the sampler in which case you'll have to press it down fully until you hear a click. If the ejection/cocking control is located on the side of the blood sampler, slide it back fully until you hear a click.
