Metabolic Cure for Diabetes

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder which is caused by the body not properly producing insulin. Insulin is a hormone produced in the pancreas, which converts sugars, starches, and other food into energy to fuel the body. There are two types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. With both, the diabetic patient must take medications, eat diabetic diets, exercise, and have regular checkups with an endocrinologist to ensure and maintain health.
  1. Blood Range Levels

    • Ensure that you are achieving your goals, by working closely with your health care provider. Each morning upon wakening, your blood sugar levels should range between 80 and 120. Before each meal, your levels should range between 80 and 120 and approximately two hours after you eat, your levels should be 170 or less. Before lunch, your levels should have dropped back down between 80 and 120. And, before you go to bed, they should be between 100 and 140.

    Diet

    • For the diabetic, 50% of daily calories must come from carbohydrates. This is what the body uses for its glucose. The average diabetic should have a calorie count of 1600 calories per day. A good way to count the carbohydrates in your diet is to round your servings. For example, one serving of milk may be rounded to 15 grams of carbohydrate, with the average diabetic daily consumption of carbohydrates being 195 grams.

    Medications

    • With Type 1 diabetes, insulin injections are required. With Type 2 diabetes, insulin may not be required. There are different insulin for the severity of the diabetes. Short-acting insulin starts working within 30 to 60 minutes and lasts six to eight hours. Intermediate-acting insulin begins to work after one hour to two hours and lasts 10 to 14 hours. Long-acting insulin begins to work after one to two hours and lasts for up to 24 hours.
