How to Translate Fructosamine Level to Average Blood Sugar
Diabetics are advised to use self-monitoring devices to measure their blood glucose level daily and to try to keep their glucose in a normal range. Additionally, doctors measure the effectiveness of diabetes treatments using tests like fructosamine or hemoglobin A1C to monitor average glucose levels over a certain period of time. Fructosamine measures a person's levels of protein that glucose had combined in the preceding two to three weeks. The change of fructosamine can also be compared with the change in blood sugar level during that period of time.Things You'll Need
- Lab reports

1
Review your lab report to find the level of fructosamine measured. The value should be displayed in micromoles units.
-
2
Find the values for the normal range of fructosamine. Normal ranges vary from lab to lab. A fructosamine level on your lab report that is higher than the normal range reflects high-average blood glucose.
-
3
Know that each 75-micromole change in fructosamine level compares to a 60 mg/dl-change in blood glucose level. For example, if your last fructosamine level was 250 micromoles, and it is now 375 micromoles, this indicates that your average glucose level has increased by 60 mg/dl since your last test.
