How to Use a Freestyle Flash Glucometer
Using the Freestyle Flash glucometer from Abbott is a great way for diabetics to manage their diabetes. Using this meter is not only easy, but since it allows you to test in many different sites, you can choose a spot that is less painful and vary it from test to test. The meter uses a very small droplet of blood and allows you to test on the forearm, upper arm, hand, thigh, calf and finger.Things You'll Need

Instructions

1
Place a new lancette in your lancing device and set it aside. Changing the lancette every time you test is important and will reduce the pain associated with testing.
-
2
Open the container holding your glucose test strips and remove one strip. Insert the strip into the meter. The meter will prompt you for the blood sample when it is ready.
-
3
Select a test site and clean the area thoroughly with an alcohol wipe. Cleaning with alcohol will reduce the chance of false readings through contamination as well as reducing the chance of infection.
-
4
Lance the test site and allow a drop of blood to develop there. You may need to apply a little pressure to coax it out.
-
5
Hold the meter in the opposite hand and place the side of the strip against the blood droplet. Allow the strip to absorb the blood.
-
6
Verify that the meter is testing by watching the display. In about five seconds the meter will display your blood glucose level on the screen. Note this reading in your log if you keep one.
