How to Control Blood Glucose

It usually causes high blood sugar, but it can also make the blood sugar too low when too much insulin is taken.Things You'll Need

1
Measure your blood glucose level. The normal blood glucose value just before a meal is between 70mg of sugar per deciliter of blood (mg/dl) and 130mg/dl. The blood glucose level shouldn't exceed 180mg/dl after a meal.

2
Raise your blood sugar level naturally. The quickest way to raise your blood sugar under normal circumstances is to have a snack. Eat small meals more frequently if you have a tendency towards hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). You should also increase the amount of starches that you eat during each meal.

3
Increase your blood sugar level in an emergency by eating some type of simple sugar such as fruit juice, a soft drink (regular, not diet), milk or hard candy as soon as you notice the symptoms of hypoglycemia.

4
Lower your blood sugar level naturally. Reduce the size of your meals, especially the amount of simple sugars. If you have a tendency towards high blood sugar (hyperglycemia), you may need to completely eliminate sugar from your diet. You should also consume at least 50g of dietary fiber each day to control hyperglycemia. Good sources of fiber include fruits and vegetables.
