Diabetes is primarily caused by insulin deficiency. Type 1 diabetes occurs when your immune system destroys cells that produce insulin, whereas your body becomes resistant to insulin with Type 2, gestational and pre-diabetes.
Risk Factors
-
Some of the factors that may contribute to the development of diabetes are genetic history, obesity, age and lack of exercise.
Symptoms
-
Some of the symptoms of diabetes are increased thirst, extreme hunger, fatigue, blurry vision, frequent infection and frequent urination.
Treatment
-
Treatment of diabetes may include proper diet and exercise or, in more severe cases, insulin injections. Other treatments, such as oral medications, may be used to stimulate the pancreas for insulin production.
