Traveling With Lantus Insulin

Lantus is a medication used to treat adults with Type 2 diabetes and adults and children over six with Type 1 diabetes. It is injected once daily and helps provide stable blood sugar for 24 hours. You can safely travel with all forms of Lantus without refrigeration.
  1. Unopened

    • Lantus vials, cartridges and disposables can be stored in the refrigerator and used until their printed expiration date. If they are not refrigerated, they must be disposed of in 28 days.

    Opened

    • Opened vials and cartridges (except the OptiClik) are safe at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 28 days after the first use. Opened OptiClik and disposables must not be refrigerated at all. They can be kept at room temperature for 28 days.

    Freezing

    • Never allow your Lantus to freeze or be stored in a freezer. If this happens, or the medication becomes cloudy, discontinue use and throw it away immediately.
