Redundant Colon Treatment
The colon has four sections: the ascending colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon and transverse colon. The shapes and sizes can vary between families. In addition, the human colon consists of several twists and turns that are not necessarily a redundant colon.-
Description
-
A redundant colon is described as repetitive overlapping loops of the large intestine, the descending colon, according to Colon-Cancer-Digestion-Health-Zone.
Function
-
With no specific purpose, it functions the same as the remainder of the colon; extracting water and nutrients from food and water products and moves waste material to the next section of the colon, eventually through the rectum.
Causes
-
Dietary deficiencies, constipation, stress, toxicity in the colon and the presence of pathogenic organisms can contribute to a redundant colon.
Treatment
-
It is normally found during a colon X-ray performed for another reason and does not require treatment. With proper care, a redundant colon should not cause any serious concern; it is simply a natural case of the colon being larger that average.
Fiber
-
A lack of fiber in a diet can contribute to the cause of many disorders and diseases, including a redundant colon. An adequate amount of fiber in the diet helps the digestive system stay healthy.
