Relief From Bloating & Gas
Bloating and gas are common conditions that affect the gastrointestinal system, and can cause an uncomfortable and awkward feeling. If you suffer from regular bloating and gas, there are certain things you can do to provide relief from the symptoms.-
Diet
-
Certain fruits, vegetables, starches (excluding rice) and high-fiber foods commonly cause gas, while fried foods, salt, fatty foods and carbonated beverages cause bloating. Limit your intake of these foods to provide relief from your symptoms
Exercise
-
Exercise is important for maintaining normal, healthy bowel functioning. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise every day to ensure that irregular bowel function isn’t causing gas or bloating.
Medications
-
Over-the-counter medications aimed at relieving the symptoms, such as Beano, may also help. Also, try using a lactase supplement before eating dairy products; lactose intolerance is a common cause of gas and bloating.
Lifestyle Changes
-
Swallowing air is another common cause of gas and bloating. To reduce the amount of air you inadvertently swallow, avoid chewing gum, sucking on hard candy, drinking through a straw, smoking and eating too quickly.
Considerations
-
Keep in mind that it is healthy and normal for your body to produce some gas every day. According to the National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse, most people produce between one and four pints of gas per day.
