How to Prevent Beef Tapeworms

Beef tapeworms are long, flat, white worms that cause the infected human to always feel hungry and to lose weight. The tapeworms may cause stomach cramps, headaches, fatigue and dizziness. The worms actually absorb the food that you eat for their own benefit and can cause serious health problems. Fortunately, protecting your health and preventing tapeworms is quite simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Freeze beef for at least three days at a temperature no more than 0° F to kill any cysts that may be present.

    • 2

Cook all beef to an internal temperature of more than 135° F before ingesting. Never eat raw or undercooked beef.

    • 3

Curing food in brine can also kill cysts that cause tapeworms. Brine is water saturated in salt and is used to preserve vegetables, fish and meats.

    • 4

Avoid purchasing meat from unregistered butchers. The beef may contain measles, which are tapeworms that are "stuck" in the muscles of the animal.
