How to Recover From a Coffee Enema

Coffee is commonly used for enemas because of its ability to relax muscles and bile ducts. Coffee also stimulates and purifies the liver and blood. Coffee enemas are frequently used repeatedly for a period of time in order to obtain full detoxification. The side effects of coffee enemas are typically minimal, however proper aftercare should be followed.

Instructions

    • 1

Return to common daily activities after the enema. However, because a coffee enema can over-stimulate the mind and cause sleep-loss, plenty of time should be taken for relaxation and quiet. Expect extra bowel movements.

    • 2

Reduce the number of caffeinated beverages you drink for at least a week after the enema. The caffeine from coffee enemas can cause you to feel hyper, nervous or anxious, and caffeinated beverages can trigger or amplify these feelings.

    • 3

Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day, and only drink clean, filtered or spring water.

    • 4

Take a daily probiotic supplement, such as acidophilus, to build up healthy levels of bacteria in your digestive system. Follow the dosage instructions on the label.

    • 5

Eat at regular meal times and only eat healthy, nutritious and easily digested foods. Eat mainly vegetables, fruits and unprocessed foods. Avoid eating meat, especially if you are older and have a less agile colon.

    • 6

Halt having any additional enemas and consult your doctor if you have any adverse reactions or bowel discomfort. Some bodily reactions, such as squirting feelings beneath your rib cage on your right side, are normal. This is your gall bladder emptying itself.

    • 7

Do not continue your coffee enema regimen for longer than four months. Continuous use of coffee enemas can deplete minerals and vitamins such as iron in your body, which can result in anemia. Take desiccated liver tablets if you develop anemia. Follow the dosage instructions on the label for taking desiccated liver tablets.
