Tests for Low Stomach Acid
-
Warning
-
Low stomach acid is an issue that many doctors do not think to address. In many cases, it is left untreated and the patient is given antacids, which have the opposite effect.
Types of Tests
-
The most accurate test for low stomach acid is called the Heidelberg Gastric Analysis. However, this test is time-consuming and can be quite expensive.
Testing Process
-
If you decide to undergo the Heidelberg Gastric Analysis, you will be given a capsule to swallow that contains a pH meter and a transmitter. You will drink some bicarbonate of soda to stimulate acid and the transmitter will then graph the results. The capsule is collected after it passes through your digestive system.
Misconceptions
-
Many doctors confuse low stomach acid with other issues such as ulcers and excess stomach acid.
Identification
-
According to Purestat.com, when you are feeling ill, try swallowing one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. If this soothes your stomach, that is a good indication of low stomach acid.
