Homemade Colon Cleaners

According to NaturalColonCleansers.org, colon cleansing can clear years of impacted fecal matter built up in the intestines. Impacted intestines result from lack of fiber, water, and vitamins, causing bloating, constipation, headaches or insomnia. It is believed that if the colon is not cleared, toxins can eventually overwhelm the colon, causing various types of illnesses. You can cleanse your colon through a colonic (enema), safely administered in a professional environment, or through several homemade recipes.
  1. Psyllium and Bentonite Cleanse

    • An effective way to clean the colon is with a psyllium and bentonite shake. These are high-fiber powders that cleanse the intestines. Start by mixing 1 tsp. of psyllium, 1 tsp. of bentonite and 1/2 tsp. of ginger powder. These ingredients can be found in local health food stores.
      Add the mixture to 250 ml of organic apple juice and shake vigorously until any lumps are gone. Drink the shake right away, immediately followed with 250 ml of water. Thirty minutes prior to dinner take a herbal laxative. Try to follow a vegan diet while using this cleanser, eating lots of fruits and vegetables. Detox.net states that shakes can be taken up to 5 times a day as long as food is not consumed two hours before or after. Bentonite clay absorbs toxins and sticks to the walls of the bowel, drawing out mucus. The psyllium binds it, providing bulk. Ginger aids in gas relief and removes certain parasites.

    Master Cleanse

    • The master cleanse involves consuming a mixture of lemon, cayenne and maple syrup, and fasting from food. Mix 4 tbsp. lemon juice with 14 tbsp. of maple syrup, and add 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper (believed to break up mucus in the colon) to 2 liters of water. This creates a large batch you can consume throughout the day. Drink a laxative tea at night and 1 liter of salt water in the morning. According to MasterCleanse.org, it is recommended the cleanse be used until the tongue is clean. It is believed a white tongue is a sign that toxins are still being released. First-time cleansers usually try a 30-day cleanse. It is very important to note that this cleanse should not be used for an extended period of time. Going too long without nourishment from solid food can be harmful to your health.

    Green Papaya Tropical Cleanse

    • Papaya contains powerful enzymes that dissolve mucus and remove toxins in the colon. Mucus causes bowel parasites that hinder food and nutrient absorption. Papaya contains the enzyme papain that breaks down proteins, starches, and fats in the colon. The Green Papaya Cleanse involves blending 200 grams of green papaya with various fruits and water in a blender. Detox.net recommends drinking the mix first thing in the morning and throughout the day. There does not appear to be a limit imposed on this cleanse, though it should be noted that colon cleansers are meant for short-term treatment only, and not as dietary aids. As you cleanse, remember to stay hydrated.
