How to Build Intestinal Bacteria

Unlike bacteria that cause infection and disease, intestinal bacteria have a beneficial and symbiotic relationship with humans. Intestinal bacteria help digest food and keep disease-causing bacteria at bay. The exact type of intestinal bacteria you have depends on your diet. After antibiotic treatment or an intestinal infection, it may be necessary to replenish the intestinal bacteria. Certain foods and supplements (known as probiotics) can help you do this.

Instructions

  1. Consuming Probiotics and Other Foods

    • 1

Eat yogurt or dairy food with active live cultures as part of your daily diet.

    • 2

Take probiotic supplements as recommended by their manufacturers.

    • 3

Do nothing. That's right, bacteria are everywhere in the environment, and, chances are, you will replenish your intestinal bacteria by eating and drinking your normal diet, albeit slower and with different bacteria than from taking probiotics.
