Holistic Treatment for Diarrhea

Diarrhea is an annoyance no one needs. Thankfully, there are numerous holistic remedies to treat the condition without the expense of a doctor's visit or potentially harmful medications.
  1. Diet

    • It's important to drink plenty of fluids during a bout of diarrhea to avoid dehydration. Vegetable and fruit juices, except for prune juice, are great ways to restore lost minerals. Foods like white rice, toast, applesauce, and bananas have soluble fiber to add bulk to stools. Yogurt is also recommended to restore healthy bacteria in the digestive tract.

    Curry Leaves

    • Curry leaves are very beneficial to digestion. The juice of curry leaves mixed with buttermilk will alleviate diarrhea, as will tender curry leaves and honey.

    Gooseberry

    • Indian gooseberry has long been recognized as a diarrhea treatment. Gooseberry, lemon juice, and sugar can be mixed into a drink to reduce the frequency of bowel movements.

    Radishes

    • Mix a handful of chopped radishes, one cup cold milk, and a half teaspoon cornstarch. Drink the concoction slowly. Diarrhea should stop within one hour. Drink another glass in four hours, if necessary.

    Honey

    • One of the simplest diarrhea treatments is to add four tablespoons of honey to eight ounces of water. It should help soothe the stomach and thicken stool.

    Cumin Seeds

    • Roast half a teaspoon each of cumin and fenugreek seeds. Smash the seeds into a powder and mix them into some yogurt. Eat the combination three times a day until the diarrhea halts.
