Homeopathic Relief for Nausea

Nausea has numerous causes, including pregnancy, motion sickness, stress, medication and infection. Though common, it's never pleasant, prompting those who suffer from it to seek relief as quickly and easily as possible. Luckily, there are numerous homeopathic remedies for nausea that you can make from common ingredients.
  1. Herbs

    • Ginger root is a common nausea treatment. It is often taken by pregnant woman before bed to prevent morning sickness or by chemotherapy patients to reduce the severity of their nausea. Used to treat nausea and other stomach ailments for over 2,000 years, it now comes in capsules, teas, oils and as a popular food ingredient. Ginger snap cookies, natural ginger ale or gingerbread in small quantities can all help soothe an upset stomach. Though ginger is a trusted nausea treatment, it should not be given to children under 2 years of age.

Mint, such as spearmint or peppermint, is another popular herbal treatment for nausea. Sip it in tea or boil fresh leaves and eat. You can also use peppermint oil as an aromatic treatment.

Basil has been shown to treat nausea as well and is often used by patients during chemotherapy.

    Drinks

    • Drinking a flat soda or taking 1 tbsp. of non-carbonated syrup can sooth an upset stomach due to the carbohydrates they contain. Because sugar can irritate the stomach, try using diet soda or syrups with artificial sweeteners.

You can also try adding 2 tbsp. of activated charcoal powder to a glass of water. Charcoal absorbs toxins which can cause vomiting.

Herbal teas such as chamomile, peppermint or ginger are also soothing to the stomach.

    Food

    • If you feel your stomach can handle it, try eating bland, high-carbohydrate foods such as dry toast or soda crackers. Bland, low-fat foods are easily digestible and can soothe nausea-related stomach pain. Don't eat too much, however; over-eating can make stomach upset worse. Two to three soda crackers or one slice of toast should be sufficient. A piece of dry toast crumbled into warmed milk and eaten like a soup can also help settle an upset stomach.

    Other Treatments

    • Acupressure is often used to soothe nausea. Common pressure points used to relieve nausea include P6 on the inside of the forearm, LI4 on the webbing of the hand between the forefinger and thumb, and ST44 on the top of the foot, located between the tendons of the second and third toe.

Visualization can also relieve nausea for some. Some psychologists recommend simply imagining your nausea with a shape and size, then visualize it melting and gently leaving your body.
