Exercises for Constipation Relief

Constipation can be treated through a series of natural exercises. Some exercises are simple, while others are more complex. Some exercises are useful at relieving secondary symptoms of constipation while others are beneficial at going straight to the source of the problem. Exercises also work to address certain physical problems, which can be underlying causes of constipation.
  1. Abdominal Crunch

    • Doing a minimum of ten abdominal crunches each day tones up the muscles in the pelvic region and in the abdomen. Proper muscle tone helps to ensure that feces pass easily along the digestive tract and out the body through the rectum. Abdominal crunches can be done using an abdominal crunch machine or by placing the hands behind the head and pulling the head toward the mid section.

    Walking

    • Taking a 10-minute walk around the neighborhood each day is good for improving and maintaining muscle tone in the digestive tract. Walking also helps to relieve bloating and excessive gas on the stomach, which often accompany an episode of constipation.

    Yoga

    • Yoga uses a series of poses that are designed to target specific areas of the body to maintain muscle tone and proper muscle function. There are three yoga poses used for relieving constipation and aiding in the overall digestive process; The Bhujanghasana, Trikonasana and Arta Matsyendrasana.
