Herbal Colon Cleansing for Parasite Removal

When you think of parasitic infections, you may envision some inexperienced traveler who drank the local water, only to find himself spending the rest of his vacation in the bathroom. Some think those who recently visited a third-world country the most likely candidates for parasitic infestations. The truth is, these harmful organisms are everywhere and can even be found in the food and water of developed countries. Hundreds of millions of people worldwide are currently infected with parasites. Although we must live with these unwanted neighbors in our environment, they can be removed from the body naturally.
  1. Symptoms

    • There are more than 3,200 varieties of parasites. The most common are Giardia, whipworm, tapeworm, ringworm, flukes, amoeba, protozoa and nematodes (common roundworm). These can cause a number of health problems. The most common symptoms of parasitic infection include gas and bloating, chronic diarrhea or constipation, light-colored stools, chronic fatigue (due to poor nutrient absorption), iron deficiency or other mineral deficiencies, recurring fevers, weakened immunity, allergies, restlessness and insomnia.

More serious infestations can eventually lead to intestinal blockages, perforation of the intestinal walls, (which can lead to infestation of the circulatory system, liver and other organs) and verminous intoxication (when the body becomes infected by the parasites' waste).

While some parasite infections are obvious because they appear in the stool or other areas of the body, most go undetected and infections are insidious. If you suffer from two or more of the above symptoms, parasites may likely be the culprit.

    The Parasite Cleanse

    • Your first line of defense is a thorough cleanse. Parasites live off the food we eat. They especially thrive on acid-producing foods, such as meat and dairy products, processed flours, soda and other high-sugar foods. During a parasite cleanse, abstain from these foods for up to 30 days. For the cleansing period, your diet should consist of small amounts of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds and legumes, such as dried beans and lentils. Drink plenty of water. Avoid coffee, soda and bottled fruit juices.

Begin a daily herbal regimen of black walnut, two capsules, 3 times a day on an empty stomach. Follow this with 2 tsp. raw apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. Pumpkin seeds and onions also are good for attacking parasites and should be consumed daily during the cleanse. Pumpkins seeds make an excellent snack and onions can be cooked and included with meals.

The black walnut is a powerful herbal parasite killer. It is important to cleanse the colon during this period to rid your body of the worms and eggs. Take two tablets of cascara sagrada each night before bed to encourage elimination. You should have two to three bowel movements per day. If you become constipated, increase the cascara sagrada to one capsule, 2 or 3 times per day. This can be taken with the black walnut. You should also take a fiber supplement, such as psyllium, which further cleanses the colon.

Because many parasites go undetected by the immune system, you should include a full spectrum enzyme with the herbal regimen. There are many enzymes available and can often be found in your local natural health food store. Additionally, begin taking a good multivitamin to nourish and strengthen your immune system. If you are already aware of certain deficiencies, combat them with supplements, for a minimum of 30 days. Iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc and B complex are all good supplements to include in your vitamin regimen.

    Preventing Further Infection

    • A strong immune system and healthy lifestyle is the key to preventing any illness, including parasitic infections. Remember that most parasites and even common bacteria, such as candida, thrive on sugars. Avoid processed grains (white rice, white breads, pasta, etc.) as much as possible. Eat whole grains (brown rice, whole grain bread, whole grain pasta). These products are becoming more common and can be found in local grocery stores. Continue to rely on nuts, seeds and legumes for your protein. Carefully prepare any meats you consume, and always wash your hands thoroughly before and after cooking them. As always, consume fresh fruits and vegetables each day. You can continue taking the additional supplements until signs of deficiency are gone, but it is always a good idea to take a daily multivitamin.

Otherwise, practice good hygiene. Drink purified water. Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly before consuming them. Wash your hands after using the bathroom, before cooking and eating, and after changing diapers. A clean home, especially the kitchen and bathrooms, is essential. These and other basic healthy lifestyle practices will help prevent further occurrences.
