Flatulence Relief

Flatulence is caused by improper digestion, which leads to gas building up in the lower intestine. While flatulence is normal, excessive flatulence could be caused by digestive problems and requires medical attention. Reducing the amount of gas is as easy as cutting out or reducing foods that create gas and also taking gas relief medications for additional relief.
  1. Watch What You Eat

    • If your body produces more gas after eating certain foods, reduce consumption or eliminate these foods altogether. Fatty foods can cause bloating and abdominal pain, and high fiber foods can cause excess gas as well. While it is good to have fiber in your diet, reducing the amount of fiber you consume daily can assist in lowering the amount of gas buildup. If dairy products cause you to pass gas more than usual, you could be lactose intolerant, meaning your body is unable to properly digest dairy. To determine if you are lactose intolerant, reduce the amount of dairy you consume and monitor how your body reacts after eating cheese or drinking whole milk.

Take Vitamin Supplements or Gas Relief Pills

    • If you are lactose intolerant, lactase supplements can help your body digest dairy without the unpleasant side effects of flatulence. Gas relief pills such as Beano and Gas-X help alleviate gas by the chemical simethicone, which breaks up gas and allows your body to relieve it without pain or straining.

    Drink Peppermint Tea

    • Peppermint tea helps soothe the stomach by using the active ingredient menthol to generate antispasmodic activity, which is a way of preventing spasms in the intestine. Drink one cup of peppermint tea in the morning and another cup in the evening to reduce flatulence.
