Oral Thrush Remedies
Thrush is an extremely painful mouth infection that is caused by too much sugar in the diet. It usually occurs in babies and individuals with weakened immune systems. Radiation treatments can also cause thrush. Thrush will appear in the mouth as white lesions that are sensitive and can bleed when brushing the teeth and tongue. You should always see your physician if you see white lesions in your mouth, as you may need to be treated with antibiotics.-
Unsweetened Yogurt
-
For mild cases of thrush in adults and for instances of thrush in infants, usually no treatment at all is needed. Eating unsweetened yogurt can help to restore balance in the mouth. This will help restore the good bacteria and ease the lesions that have formed. This works exceptionally well if the thrush appeared after a round of antibiotics.
Antifungal Medications
-
If thrush does not go away after a few days on its own, your physician may prescribe antifungal medications. Antifungal medications come in many forms, such as lozenges, tablets and liquids. Some antifungal medications can cause liver damage so your doctor will probably monitor your liver function if these medications are given.
Garlic
-
Garlic is a home remedy that can be used when treating thrush. Garlic contains natural antifungal ingredients and is safe to use. Someone experiencing thrush can add fresh garlic cloves to food or take an over-the-counter garlic supplement to help kill the fungus and provide relief.
