Colon Cleansing With Natural Remedies

Cleansing your colon can easily be performed in the comfort of your own home, using simple recipes and only natural ingredients. Follow these steps, and you'll see how easy it is to successfully complete a cleansing in a safe, natural way.
  1. Flax Seeds

    • Flax seeds are a completely natural product that can be very helpful in stimulating a bowel movement. You can buy flax seeds from any nutrition store and most grocery stores. Be sure to buy them fresh--if they're more than 6 months old, they will not be as effective. Flax seeds do not have a strong taste, so you can grind about 2 teaspoons of the seeds and sprinkle the fresh flax seeds over cereal, yogurt, oatmeal or whatever you might have for breakfast. Daily intake is suggested at 1 to 2 teaspoons, or 16 grams, per day. Since flax seeds are very high in fiber, it's not a good idea to exceed 2 teaspoons per day for cleansing your colon.

    Ginger

    • Ginger is known for it's soothing qualities, but is also known to reduce bloating and stimulate the colon. In fact, ginger works effectively for nearly any stomach ailment. Drink 2 glasses of ginger tea each day, or sprinkle 2 teaspoons of ginger on your morning cereal, oatmeal, applesauce or whatever you would like to mix it with. Do not exceed 1 gram of ginger per day, roughly the equivalent to 2 cups of ginger tea or 2 teaspoons of ginger. Too much ginger may cause an itchy bladder opening.

    Psyllium

    • Psyllium is a fiber derived from the husks of psyllium seeds. This is a completely natural product, which reduces gel build-up in the body. When excess gel, or mucus, builds up in the digestive system, it takes longer for foods to be digested and that delays bowel movements. Psyllium dissolves quickly in water, which makes it ideal for colon cleansing. The psyllium turns into liquid almost immediately and begins moving along the digestive process. As with the other two natural ingredients, mix in roughly 2 teaspoons of psyllium with your food of choice per day. Maximum daily intake is suggested at 7.5 grams in psyllium seed form, or 5 grams per day in husk form.

    After the Cleansing

    • After you have cleansed your colon, be sure to incorporate more fiber into your diet to help keep in clean. (See "Resources" below for a list of foods high in fiber.) Fiber is a huge factor in maintaining regular bowel movements. Also, be sure to drink an 8-ounce glass of water 10 to 12 times per day. Fiber absorbs water quickly, and it's important to keep yourself hydrated.
