How to Lessen the Pain of a Gallbladder Attack

Gallbladder pain may have several causes. Overeating, being overweight or high fat intake are leading instigators. In addition, older adults, women with children or diabetics may experience an onset of gallbladder problems. The symptoms of a gallbladder issue include but are not limited to severe pain, nausea and fatigue. If the pain continues without relief, see a doctor immediately. They may prescribe an antibiotic or remove the gallbladder. It is important to understand a gallbladder attack to lessen the pain or relieve the symptoms all together.

      Lay down on a pillow. Place the pillow on the bed or couch. Lay on the left side of your body on top of the pillow. This helps relieve the pressure from the gallbladder.

      Sit in a high-backed chair. Sit down with your body against the back of the chair, raise your arms straight up, then lean your arms backwards. Hold the position until the pain subsides.

      Have a bowel movement. Removing the waste that may have contributed to the attack is important. However do not bear down.

      Vomit only if you are nauseous. Do not force yourself to be sick. However do not constrain yourself from vomiting if necessary. Nausea is a symptom of a gallbladder attack.
