Find out what is causing your problem. Uncontrollable flatulence is sometimes caused by an underlying disease or illness, such as Crohn's disease, diabetes or inflammatory bowel disease. Your doctor can perform various tests to rule out some of the more serious potential causes. Various prescription medications can treat uncontrollable flatulence.

Remove lactose from your diet. In some instances, uncontrollable flatulence may be due to lactose intolerance. Cease consumption of all dairy products for approximately 2 weeks. If your uncontrollable flatulence improves, you have likely found the cause of the issue. Substitute lactose-free products for traditional dairy products.

Stop eating when you feel full. Overeating commonly contributes to severe flatulence. Your body will be able to digest food more easily and you'll experience less gas if you avoid overeating.

Avoid foods that are high in fat and fiber. Fatty, fried foods often cause bloating, which can lead to uncontrolled flatulence. While fiber is good for your body, it may increase flatulence. Limit intake until you get your flatulence under control.

Take activated charcoal. When taken orally, activated charcoal can absorb excess stomach gases, helping to reduce flatulence. Activated charcoal is available in liquid, tablet, capsule and powder forms. To reduce flatulence and gas, take up to 5 g daily.
