Fruits to Avoid With Candida

Candida is a yeast growth that naturally occurs inside the body. It is generally found in the intestine and stomach, but can overgrow outside the digestive tract inside the trunk cavity. It can also overgrow in the uterus and vagina. Overgrowth of Candida can occur inside the body when the good bacteria is out of balance. Candida imbalance can be caused by a variety of factors including overuse of antibiotics, natural inclination of overgrowth, immune disorders and the consumption of large amounts of sugar and carbohydrates. In order to avoid and assist with overgrowth of Candida refraining from eating certain fruits can help.
  1. Citrus Fruits

    • Citrus fruits will generally not cause any issues in Candida overgrowth. If anything citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, lemons and limes are the best types of fruits to consume if you have an overgrowth of Candida.

    Stemmed Fruit

    • Do not eat fruits that have stems that extend into the fruit. Specifically, grapes of any kind, apples, cherries, pears, plums and peaches. On these fruits, the stem extends into the meat of the fruit that you will normally consume. The stems often grow mold and fungus on them that is microscopic. The mold on these types of fruit if consumed can contribute to Candida and especially an overgrowth.

    High Fructose Fruits

    • Avoid fruits high in natural fructose. Though most fruits are high in fructose there are certain fruits that have an even higher level of natural fructose. Fruits that are higher in fructose are bananas, mangoes, pineapples, apricots and apples. The fructose levels are higher in these fruits and sugar, though natural, increases the odds of someone getting an overgrowth of yeast.

    Fruit and Candida

    • Fruit cannot cause an infection or overgrowth of Candida, but it is important to remember if you are suffering from a Candida infection to limit or avoid fruit of any kind. Often, oral thrush (Candida of the mouth) can benefit from citrus fruits, especially grapefruit. Avoid any other types of fruit to help kill the infection. Medications are used in conjunction with your diet to treat Candida. Consult with your physician to make sure you are treating any Candida overgrowth or infection correctly.

    Fruit to Fat

    • It is also important to avoid certain fruits because the sugar is transferred into fat by the body cells. That fat is difficult to lose and it sits in the body and can contribute to the overgrowth of Candida. It is important to avoid foods that contribute additional fructose through fruit and therefore any types of fat in your body.
