How to Treat Flatulence

Food can be a common cause of gas, and for some people certain types of food will trigger episodes. Beans are a classic example of a food associated with its flatulence-inducing properties.

Instructions

    • 1

Drink a cup of warm peppermint tea to soothe your stomach spasms. If you develop heartburn after drinking the tea, avoid using this remedy.

    • 2

Try an over the counter product to alleviate the gas. This includes products such as Gas-X, Mylanta, Gelusil or Mylicon.

    • 3

Stop chewing gum, smoking or drinking out of a straw. Swallowing air will contribute to your gas problem. Don't gulp your food and eat slowly to help alleviate your flatulence.

    • 4

Get a jump on gas by taking a product, such as Beano, before you eat gas inducing foods. You can add it to recipes to reduce the amount of gas produced.

    • 5

Take lactase supplements to help you digest dairy products because an inability to digest dairy products can result in gas.

    • 6

Take activated charcoal, which is available at the natural food store. Take a charcoal pill before and after a meal, according to label instructions.
