Where Is Lipase Made?
Lipase is a enzyme which breaks down chemical bonds in lipid substrates. It is commonly used by the digestive system where it helps break down fats and oils into smaller compounds, known as monoglycerides and fatty acids, which are more easily absorbed by the body. Because lipids are a part of all cell membranes, lipases are also used by the body to break down cellular debris and to help digest dead cells.-
Pancreas
-
The pancreas is the major producer of lipase for the digestive system.
Lysosomal production
-
Lipase is also found in the lysosomes, which is a part of many different cell types. Lysosomes are used by cells to help break down debris.
Liver
-
Lipase is also made by the liver in order to help remove lipids from lipoproteins so it can regenerate a protein known as LDL.
Salivary glands
-
There is also a form of lipase known as lingual lipase which is produced by the salivary glands.
Bacteria
-
A number of different bacteria and fungi also make lipase, which helps in the production of yogurt and cheese.
