Zegerid is used to treat acid reflux, ulcers, erosive esophagitis and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), according to information from its manufacturer, Santarus, Inc. It's also combined with antibiotics to treat ulcers caused by bacterial infections.
Availability

Zegerid is not the same drug as other products containing omeprazole, such as Prilosec. Zegerid is only available by prescription.
Considerations

Zegerid passes through into breast milk, so nursing women aren't encouraged to take it, according to its manufacturer. People taking diazepam (Valium), warfarin (Coumadin) and phenytoin (Dilatin) should not take Zegerid because it can cause adverse effects. Pregnant women should consult their doctor before taking Zegerid.
