Signs of a Gallbladder Attack
The gallbladder is a sac, shaped like a pear, located under the liver. Its job is to store and transport bile secreted by the liver to the intestines, which then aids in digestion. However, if the bile forms abnormally, it results in the creation of gallstones, the most common cause of gallbladder disease. They are also responsible for gallbladder inflammation and a majority of gallbladder attacks.-
Chest Pain
-
This occurs on the right side of the body and is caused by gallstones that become lodged in the bile duct. It can also occur as a result of an inflamed gallbladder.
Loss of Breath
-
During a gallbladder attack, many people find it difficult to breathe due to the intensity of the pain. There is generally no relief of pain until the attack has ended.
Inability to Walk
-
Many will experience sharp pain between their shoulder blades as the pain radiates around to their back. This makes walking, or walking without bending over, nearly impossible.
Nausea or Vomiting
-
This can be caused by a reflux of bile during the attack, the severity of the pain from the attack, or a combination of both.
Time Frame
-
A gallbladder attack can last anywhere from 15 minutes to six hours; it will vary depending on the person and the severity of the condition. The symptoms will continue until the attack has ended.
