Frequent bouts of heartburn may be a sign of acid reflux.     • Zegerid decreases acid levels in the stomach. It is effective in treating stomach bleeding ulcers and ulcers caused by bacteria and infection.

    • Taken in powdered form or in capsules, Zegerid provides almost immediate relief from heartburn and acid reflux. It begins working in as little as 30 minutes and nighttime dosage works through the night.

    Considerations

    • Zegerid contains sodium bicarbonate, which is a form a salt. Those on a low-salt or low sodium diets may not tolerate Zegerid. A health care provider will be able to make this decision for the patient. People with metabolic or respiratory alkalosis (following a lengthy illness), low calcium, and/or low potassium levels need a doctor's guidance before taking Zegerid.

    Preganat Women

    • Pregnant women or those intending to become pregnant during treatment with Zegerid should alert their physician. Zegerid may be harmful to a fetus.

    How To Take Zegerid

    • Zegerid is prescribed to be taken one hour before a meal on an empty stomach. It is intended to be taken with water alone. It is available by prescription only.
