Lower Abdominal Pain After Eating

Pain is a common thing for many people. It can occur from an injury, from getting bad news or it can occur right at the end of a meal. When this is the case, it is usually not permanent, but it can be quite severe depending on the situation.
  1. Lactose Intolerance

    • Lactose intolerance is a condition where the body does not produce an enzyme called lactase, which is used to breakdown lactose. Lactose is a milk sugar that is found in dairy products. Lactose intolerance can cause lower abdominal pain after eating foods with lactose in them.

    IBS

    • Irritable bowel syndrome is a condition where food gets passed through the digestive tract too quickly or too slowly. This leads to alternating bouts of constipation and diarrhea which can lead to lower abdominal pain.

    Celiac Disease

    • Celiac disease is a condition where you cannot break down the protein portion of wheat called gluten. When foods with wheat, rye or barley are eaten, severe pain can develop.

    Diverticulitis

    • Diverticulitis is a condition where there are small pouches that bulge out in the digestive tract that can cause pain, especially after eating meals.

    Bowel Obstruction

    • In some instances, the intestines can end up getting blocked. This can prevent fluids, gas and solids from moving through properly. When food is eaten, pain develops here.
