1
Take warm baths. Soaking in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes can temporarily ease hemorrhoid pain and soothe inflamed areas.
-
2
Apply a cotton pad soaked in witch hazel to the anal area. Witch hazel, a natural astringent, contracts inflamed blood vessels.
-
3
Eat foods high in fiber or take a fiber supplement daily to stave off constipation. Straining during a bowel movement will make you hemorrhoid pain worse and cause rectal veins to swell and possibly rupture.
-
4
Use ice packs. Ice packs can provide temporary relief from the pain and reduce swelling.
-
5
If you experience itching, apply hydrocortisone cream to the area. Scratching not only causes further inflammation, but can break the skin, which can lead to infection.
-
6
Make sure the anus is thoroughly cleaned after each bowel movement. You might want to consider switching from dry, rough toilet tissue to baby wipes or flushable moist towelettes.
