Drink lots of fluids. Drinking plenty of fluids will flush out your entire system including the colon. The extra fluids will soften fecal matters and also clean out all the cells and tissues in the body. Water, fruit juices, vegetable juices and herbal teas are the liquids to drink. These are lot healthier than sodas or alcohol. An intake of 10 to 12 glasses of fluids each day is also necessary for the body to carry out its various processes.

Take aloe vera. Many people with intestinal problems like irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea and constipation, use aloe vera to treat these ailments. This popular plant has a "strong laxative action" according to the Herbs2000 website. Aloe vera comes in a drinkable gel, juice and as supplements. The plants contain compounds called anthraquinones that cause purging. Herbs2000 states, "The mode of functioning of these classes of compounds lies in their ability to induce contractions in the colon of affected individuals. This usually results in the production of bowel movements within eight to 12 hours following the initial consumption of the herbal remedy." Drink one or two glasses a day of aloe vera.

Try colon hydrotherapy, an advanced approach to an enema. Colon hydrotherapy sessions are done in an office with a trained colon therapist. A tube is inserted into the rectum which is attached to a machine that pumps up to 20 gallons of warm water into the intestines. Some colon therapist use just water, but others also add herbs, enzymes or sodium bicarbonate to the water. After the water has loosened the debris in the colon, a second hose removes all the wastes and fecal materials. The entire session lasts for about one hour. Also called colonic irrigation, the water literally flushes away all the debris in the colon.
