How to Heal Chronic Constipation
Everyone deals with an occasional bout of constipation. However, symptoms generally disappear on their own and sufferers don't have to seek treatment. On the other hand, some people deal with chronic constipation, in which they have fewer than three bowel movements a week. Chronic constipation is rarely caused by a serious illness, and there are several ways to ease discomfort and stimulate regular bowel movements.Things You'll Need

1
Increase your fiber intake. A high-fat, low-fiber diet can cause chronic constipation. Reduce your intake of red meat and fast foods, and increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. If necessary, take a fiber supplement.

2
Work out three times a week. Regular exercise is a natural remedy for constipation. Being active stimulates the digestive tract, which enables food to pass through the intestines. Exercise for at least 30 minutes three times a week.

3
Drink plenty of fluids. Water, green teas and natural juices hydrate the body and soften stools.

4
Take a laxative. It can take a few days for exercise and fiber supplements to regulate bowel movements. If you're looking for immediate relief, take a gentle laxative. Laxatives soften stools and generally ease constipation within 12 hours.

5
Experiment with an alternative therapy. Massages relax muscles, and when therapists apply pressure to the abdomen, this can stimulate the intestinal tract and promote a bowel movement.
