A sign of an internal hemorrhoid is rectal bleeding. Internal hemorrhoids do not cause pain, but if you see blood on or in the toilet, this could mean that a vein in the anus ruptured due to straining.
Pain

External hemorrhoids cause pain. The inflamed vein can be felt and seen. If a blood clot forms in the vein due to pooled blood, then the pain can be excruciating.
Itching

Piles

Hemorrhoids are also called piles and having one protruding from your rectum is a definite sign of an external hemorrhoid.
