To avoid having to deal with constipation, you should eat a diet that is rich in fiber. Fiber-rich foods include, Spinach, beans, bananas, and prunes. Eating prunes is especially effective in relieving constipation. Be careful that you don't eat too much. Avoid foods that are high in fat and sugars.

Drink plenty of water daily to help bowel movements. Also, drink plenty of fresh fruit juices. Drinking a cup of warm water, can sometimes help to ease the discomfort and soften the stool.

Pregnancy can also cause constipation. During pregnancy there is an increase in progesterone, which causes the intestinal muscles to relax. Drink at least 8 glasses of water each day. Eat a fiber-rich diet, including lots of fruits and vegetable. Eat papaya to keep your bowel movements free.

Exercising can help to prevent constipation. Set aside a time each day to perform your exercise. Exercises can be as simple as walking briskly or jogging.

Some brand of iron supplements can cause constipation. If you are experiencing constipation while using a specific brand of iron supplement, discontinue and use another brand.
