What organs are involved in the gastrointestinal tract?
The gastrointestinal tract (GI tract or digestive tract) is a series of organs responsible for receiving, digesting, absorbing, and eliminating food. The organs involved in the GI tract are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine (jejunum, duodenum, and ileum), large intestine (colon and rectum), and anus. These organs, as well as accessory organs such as the salivary glands, liver, and pancreas, collectively perform different functions to process food and facilitate the absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream.
