Why much absorption of nutrients occur in the stomach?
Very little absorption of nutrients occurs in the stomach. The primary function of the stomach is to store food and begin the process of mechanical and chemical digestion. The majority of nutrient absorption takes place in the small intestine, where the surface area is increased by folds, villi, and microvilli and where various enzymes and transport proteins facilitate the absorption of specific nutrients into the bloodstream.
