At what point during the digestive process does your body begin to receive energy from food?
Your body begins to receive energy from food as it passes through the small intestine. The small intestine produces enzymes that catalyse the breakdown of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates into small units capable of being absorbed into the bloodstream. The walls of the small intestine are lined with villi, tiny projections that aid in absorbing these small units into the bloodstream. So, as the nutrients from the food you consume are broken down and absorbed in the small intestine, the body can start utilizing them for energy production.
