Why does the body not absorb food in same form you ingest it?

The body does not absorb food in the same form you ingest it because it must first break it down into simpler substances that can be absorbed through the walls of the small intestine. This process is called digestion.

Digestion begins in the mouth, where saliva breaks down carbohydrates. It continues in the stomach, where stomach acid and enzymes break down proteins and fats. The food is then churned and mixed, which helps to break it down further.

The food then passes into the small intestine, where it is further broken down by enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the liver. The nutrients in the food are then absorbed through the walls of the small intestine and transported to the rest of the body.

Any food that is not absorbed in the small intestine passes into the large intestine, where it is converted into feces and eventually expelled from the body.
