Where does the water in large intestine go?

The water in the large intestine is mostly absorbed back into the body. The large intestine is the last part of the digestive system, and its primary function is to absorb water and electrolytes from the waste material that has passed through the small intestine. Once the water is absorbed, the remaining waste material, known as feces, is stored in the rectum until it is ready to be eliminated from the body.
