What causes a deveated septum?
A deviated septum is a condition in which the nasal septum, which is the cartilage and bone that separates the two nostrils, is displaced from the center. This can cause difficulty breathing, nasal congestion, and other symptoms.
The most common cause of a deviated septum is trauma, such as a blow to the nose. Other causes include birth defects, genetics, and certain medical conditions, such as allergies and chronic sinusitis.
Deviated septum is a common condition, and it is estimated to affect up to 80% of the population. However, only a small percentage of people with a deviated septum experience symptoms that require treatment.
Treatment for deviated septum may include medications to reduce swelling and congestion, nasal sprays, and surgery.
