How long mouth to stomach?
The time it takes for food to travel from the mouth to the stomach can vary depending on several factors, including the type and amount of food consumed and the individual's digestion rate. On average, it takes about 4 to 8 seconds for food to travel through the pharynx (throat) and into the esophagus, which is the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach. Once in the esophagus, rhythmic muscle contractions called peristalsis help move the food downward into the stomach. This process of peristalsis usually takes about 6 to 8 seconds, so in general, it takes around 10 to 16 seconds for food to travel from the mouth to the stomach. However, for certain types of food that are harder to digest or bulky, this time may be longer.
