Halflytely Directions

Halflytely and bisacodyl is an electrolyte enhanced liquid used for cleaning out the intestines and bowels before invasive procedures involving the colon or bowel such as a colonoscopy. It is infused with electrolytes to replace some of what you will lose by moving your bowels and all of the liquid that will be removed as well. Instructions

    • 1

Start your eating preparation two days before the procedure. Eat healthy meals but avoid whole nuts, green salads, raw fruits and vegetables and other roughage.

    • 2

Begin the liquid diet portion of your preparation 24 to 36 hours before the procedure. This means no solid food or drinks that are not clear. This would allow gelatin, ice pops, herbal teas, juices and broth.

    • 3

Remove the jug contained in the kit and add tepid water to the "fill" line, close the cap tightly and shake until all the powder in the jug is dissolved. Put it in the refrigerator until 6 p.m.

    • 4

Drink a minimum of 64 oz. of electrolyte-enhanced drinks throughout the day to give your body a chance to build up the electrolytes you will lose during the bowel cleansing.

    • 5

Take the two tablets marked "Biscodyl" from the kit and take them orally with a full glass of water midday the day before the procedure.

    • 6

Start drinking the liquid from the jug at 6 p.m. Drink 6 oz. to 8 oz. every 15 to 20 minutes until you finish half the liquid. Shake the jug before pouring each glass.

    • 7

Finish the rest of the liquid beginning at six hours before the procedure. Shake the jug and drink 6 oz. to 8 oz. every 15 minutes until the jug is empty.

    • 8

Stay very close to a bathroom because the purpose of this medication is to clean out the bowel system, and it works very well and very fast.
