Why Do I Feel Full After a Cup of Food Without Dieting?

Some people can only eat one cup of food before they feel full. This small amount of food can even cause gas and bloating. The culprit behind this full sensation is usually a condition called candidiasis, or overgrowth of yeast.
  1. Yeast Growth

    • The Candida yeast present in the digestive tract feeds on the complex carbohydrates that are present in a meal. The Candida is a fungus, and when it consumes food, it emits carbon dioxide, causing uncomfortable swelling and bloating.

    Prevention

    • The yeast thrives on sugars and complex carbohydrates. Eating a low-carbohydrate diet for several months will usually help to starve the yeast. Many naturopaths also recommend staying away from antibiotics, too, because they tend to kill off the good bacteria and allow the yeast to grow out of control.

    Supplement Use

    • Adding acidophilus, which is good bacteria, to the diet will usually help keep the candida overgrowth in check. There are also anti-fungal herbs available at the health food store that can be taken to help speed up the yeast-killing process. These include garlic, olive leaf extract and caprylic acid.
