Castor Oil Packs & Stomach Infections
Castor oil packs are an external natural treatment for stomach infections and digestive problems caused by viruses, bacteria, fungus or parasites. Castor oil packs can be made and used at home to increase the body's natural immunity for fighting and eliminating infections and toxins in the stomach.-
History
-
Castor oil is derived from the seed of castor beans and has long been used as an internal natural laxative and externally to increase circulation and elimination. Castor oil has also been used as a traditional natural medicine since ancient Egypt. The use of castor oil packs as a natural remedy was popularized by the psychic healer Edgar Cayce, who died in 1945.
Description
-
Lymphatic circulation and production is necessary for cells to locate and destroy infections, bacteria and fungus. Castor oil packs placed on the stomach increase lymphatic circulation, which helps eliminate the infection.
Uses
-
Castor oil packs are made by soaking a piece of linen or flannel in castor oil and heating the oil until it is hot. The heated pack is wrapped in plastic to prevent leaking and placed on the stomach. It is kept warm with a hot water bottle or heating pad and should be left in place for 30 to 40 minutes. These should be applied as needed, but generally twice per day for up to two weeks by making a new pack for each use.
Side Effects
-
Constant use beyond the recommended time can cause fluid and electrolyte imbalances in the body, which will cause noticeable weakness or dizziness, as well as mild nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps. An increase in bowel movements is also common, as castor oil is a laxative and works to eliminate infection from the stomach. As with all medications, allergic reaction is possible.
Warnings
-
Castor oil packs are not to be used on young children, pregnant or lactating women, those with internal bleeding or active ulcers, or individuals who have had cancer because of an increased risk of spreading the disease. Antacids and milk decrease the absorption of castor, so avoid using these for at least an hour prior to using packs.
