Diseases Related to Flatulence
Flatulence, the passing of internal gas, is a healthy function. It's often simply part of our normal bodily operations. Common reasons for the body to release air in the form of flatulence include fibrous or legume-based diets, reactions to lactose consumption or excessive swallowing of air. However, flatulence can sometimes be symptomatic of more critical health issues and diseases. Consult your doctor if you have concerns that your flatulence is connected to something atypical.-
Gallbladder and Bile Duct Diseases
-
The gall bladder is a digestive organ that aids in the body's storage of bile. Gallbladder diseases include gallstones, gallbladder cancer, gallbladder inflammation and pancreatitis. Diseases that affect the bile duct include cholecystitis, which is inflammation of the bile duct, and fascioliasis, which is a parasitic infection. In addition to flatulence, symptoms of Gallbladder diseases include upset stomach, vomiting and yellowing of the skin.
Colon Cancer
-
The colon is the part of the digestive system that filters excrement before it leaves the body. Rectal cancer is also a form of colon cancer as it occurs in the end portion of the colon. In addition to flatulence, symptoms of colon cancer include constipation or diarrhea, bloody excrement, stomach pain and weight loss. Doctors recommend getting regular colon examinations (colonoscopies) after the age of 50.
Diverticulosis or Diverticulitis
-
Diverticulosis is a disease characterized by the formation of swollen, pouch-like inflammations that occur in the large intestine. Diverticulitis occurs when the inflammations become infected. It is thought that these diseases are caused by digestive issues because of diets that don't have enough fiber and that contain excessive processed foods. In addition to flatulence, other symptoms include stomach pain, bloating and diarrhea or constipation.
