Signs & Symptoms of Dysmotility
Dysmotility syndrome, also referred to as gastroparesis or delayed gastric emptying, is a term used to describe any disease gastrointestinal tract's muscles, including the esophagus, stomach and small and large intestines, that causes abnormal movement through the stomach. This condition does not cause any obstructions, but does reduce the stomach's ability to empty.-
Abdominal Distention and Bloating
-
Abdominal distention, also referred to as abdominal swelling, occurs when the stomach becomes physically larger than usual. This is caused by gases that build up in the abdomen due to the body not properly digesting foods. Bloating, a feeling that the stomach is larger without it being physically larger, can also occur from dysmotility syndrome.
Nausea and Vomiting
-
Nausea is the term used for the feeling you get when you have the urge to vomit. Nausea may be accompanied by vomiting, but this is not always the case. A common side effect of vomiting is dehydration, which occurs when the body does not have enough water and fluids. If you are experiencing vomiting, drink plenty of extra water to keep your body well hydrated.
Weight Loss
-
Dysmotility can also cause you to lose weight unintentionally. This means that you may experience a loss of weight without changes in your diet or exercise routine. Weight loss may be a side effect of vomiting.
Lethargy
-
Another symptom of dysmotility syndrome is lethargy, which is a feeling of being very overly tired. It may cause you to experience muscle weakness, decreased concentration and decreased wakefulness.
